Sicily, known as "Sicilia" in Italian, is the largest island in the Mediterranean Sea. Inhabited since around 8,000 BC, it is home to five World Heritage Sites â€" Valle dei Templi (Valley of the Temples) of Agrigento; Villa Romana del Casale of Piazza Armerina (with its beautifully preserved mosaics); The Aeolian Islands (Natural site); Late Baroque Towns of the Val di Noto (South-Eastern Sicily); and Syracuse (think Shakespeare) and the Rocky Necropolis of Pantalica.

This triangular island is also home to Mt. Etna, the "friendly" volcano, dramatic coasts, small cliffside villages, Palermo, and the charming town of Taormina where we'll be based. You'll be treated to city markets, ancient Teatro Grecos, Roman arches, ancient cities, amazing views, and scenic drives. What more could one want?

Margo and Arnie look forward to returning to this special part of the world and showing you some of their favorite locations where you'll be able to celebrate your passion for photography, hone your seeing and imaging skills, and learn about the magic of light to make wonderful photographs.

Beginning Photography with Digital Cameras
Sarah Meghan Lee
February 28 - March 6, 2010

This workshop is filling quickly. Please call soon to register (505) 983-1400, ext. 11.
This start-from-scratch workshop takes beginning photographers from the basics of exposure, manipulation of depth of field, and shutter speed to the ultimate goal of creating more compelling photographs with their digital SLR cameras. Over the course of a week, we build a solid technical foundation that enables us to take the photographs we’ve always wanted to take.
We learn to be comfortable with our cameras by understanding manual modes of exposure, depth of field, and focus. Subsequent discussions cover such topics as composition, lenses, natural light, and difficult lighting situations. Participants are on the move with Sarah, practicing new skills during daily field trips around beautiful Santa Fe. She encourages an energetic and creative atmosphere that builds confidence in photographic abilities and personal vision. At the end of the week, we leave Santa Fe with an energized feeling about our photography and a collection of new images that illustrate our growth, both technically and creatively.
Instructor(s)

Sarah Meghan Lee began her photography career as an assistant photo editor for USA Today in Washington, D.C. She was also a volunteer teacher for Shooting Back, a program that taught inner-city youth to document life in their neighborhoods. In 1996, Sarah traveled to Rwanda to pursue her dream of being a photojournalist. There she worked for several international relief agencies, newspapers, and the Associated Press, covering the returning refugees. Her first published photograph landed on the front page of the New York Times.
Sarah has spent the past seven years working as a photojournalist in Latin America. Her photographs have been published in USA Today, the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and the Boston Globe. This is Sarah’s 11th year teaching for the Workshops. Her web site is www.sarahmeghanlee.com.
