Portraitists, whether painters or photographers, have always confronted the challenge of creating evocative and meaningful images of their subjects. In this workshop, David Robin aims to decode this mystery and explore techniques to help participants develop their own unique voice and style.
Portraiture is a collaboration between photographer and subject, requiring skills beyond the technical. After examining the work of some master photographers in the genre, we explore simplified methods of working with subjects and using light and setting to “speak” with our images. Through studio and location demonstrations, discussions, guest speakers, and assignments, participants learn how to visualize each portrait and create the appropriate environment and lighting to convey mood and emotion. David explains and demonstrates his techniques for achieving meaningful portraits, covering the gamut of editorial, beauty, advertising, and journalism. Participants leave Santa Fe with a refreshed and clearer personal vision and the ability to achieve tangible photographic results.
