Your Future in Stock Photography
Patrick Donehue
February 21 - February 27, 2010
With the market for stock photography currently growing at a record rate, enormous new opportunities are available to those able to navigate the complexities of the stock photo industry. This workshop is designed to help photographers take advantage of those opportunities while avoiding some common pitfalls. Participants learn what kind of imagery sells, how to shoot it, and how to sell it. Personal vision, creative risk-taking, and a conceptual approach are stressed.
The week begins with individual portfolio reviews, followed by a series of lectures, demonstrations, and assignments in which participants practice applying their personal vision while photographing subject matter that appeals to an international market. Topics covered include the common traits of best-selling stock photos, anticipating market trends, shooting conceptual photos, the role of digital technology, selecting the right distributor, and maximizing the photographer-distributor relationship. Licensing models, including microstock, will be covered in depth. Case studies of successful stock photographers are presented and analyzed. With Patrickâs expertise and guidance, this workshop provides the necessary tools for building and sustaining a career in shooting stock photography.
