Dive in with a week of camera mechanics, image adjustments and printing techniques.

Demystify the jargon of the digital world. This workshop is an introduction to digital photography and workflow, from digital capture to digital print output.

Lectures and assignments cover exposure, lighting, shutter effects, and the creative possibilities of digital photography, helping students grow to become comfortable with digital SLR cameras and digital workflow. Topics include the technical aspects of non-automatic shooting modes, image storage capabilities, file types, menus, and color balance.

In-class demonstrations and lectures are complemented by daily field trips to beautiful Midcoast Maine locations. After shooting, students learn how to process images and create the desired print. Working in the Workshops' digital labs, students learn basic digital workflow, from organization and file management to output, using Adobe Lightroom software, Mac computers, and a range of digital printers.

Students should bring a digital SLR camera or can borrow one for the week from the Workshops' Digital Service Bureau. This workshop is the first of a three-course sequence in digital photography.

No previous knowledge or experience required.

Winter/Spring lodging & meal package available $425.
