To those who are new to the world of Photoshop, this introduction takes the fear out of getting started and learning the basics. I will explain the fundamental characteristics of digital images and image manipulation, and will demonstrate the basic tools, including:
* Sizing and cropping for prints, monitors and email
* Photoshop tools - what are they, and when to use them
* Lighting and darkening, controlling contrast
* Color manipulation and enhancement
* How and when to use filters and actions
* Simple adjustment layer techniques
* Red eye correction
* Pros and cons of shooting "Raw" vs. "JPEG" file formats

This workshop provides step-by-step instructions and practical photographic applications. You'll come away from this class with the ability to do basic image manipulation and with a foundation for moving to the next step in Photoshop.
(Instruction is given in Photoshop CS4, which can readily be applied to CS2 & CS3.)

Who should take this workshop:
Beginners who are new to Photoshop (including anyone who wants to "move up" to the full-featured Photoshop program from other more limited or less convenient image editing programs such as Photoshop Express, Photoshop Elements, Paint Shop Pro, Picasa, etc.)
