Beyond the basics of HDR, learn to take advantage of any lighting scenario.
Beyond the basics of HDR, learn to take advantage of any lighting scenario.
High Dynamic Range imaging (HDR) is the most exciting development in photography since the zoom lens. Photographers can now capture scenes of extreme contrast that would overwhelm film or a single digital capture. Dark interiors with sunlit windows are no longer a challenge; landscapes with deep shadows and bright highlights can be tackled with confidence. Special shooting techniques and powerful software tools combine to produce final prints with lush shadow elements and gloriously detailed highlights. Using HDR, it is easy to tackle scenes that one would normally walk away from for fear of empty black shadows and blown highlights.
The workshop not only shows how to shoot and process HDR captures, but goes beyond the basics to explore precision control of the full range of color and contrast in images. It delves into the brave new world of 32-bit images, reviews proper color management techniques, and explores new selection and masking skills, all toward making perfect prints on luxurious archival papers.
Students should bring a digital SLR camera that is capable of shooting raw format, a tripod, a remote release if possible, spare memory cards, batteries, a card reader, and a portfolio box for final prints.
Winter/Spring lodging & meal package available $425.
