A Natural Eye: The Winter Landscape
Eddie Soloway
February 14 - February 20, 2010

This workshop is filling quickly. Please call soon to register (505) 983-1400, ext. 11.

At the heart of any good photograph is both the passion for the subject and the ability to capture it uniquely. Perhaps you love the outdoors yet find that your images keep looking like pretty postcards. Or perhaps you’ve been distracted by cameras, pixels, and software at the expense of building your vision. If so, join Eddie for an intense week of viewing the natural world with fresh eyes.

The primary goal of this workshop is to develop your natural eye first, and then to address the technical skills of photography. You spend as much time changing your perspective, sharpening your senses, and immersing yourself in nature as you do developing new photographic skills.

Northern New Mexico is truly magical in winter with snowcapped mountains, high desert canyons showing off their rainbow colors, and light that takes your breath away with its purity and brilliance. The end-of-day light has been a magnet for photographers, painters, and writers for centuries. During the week, outdoor experiences in diverse natural areas take you through key steps towards enriching your photographs of the natural world. You find yourself focused less on objects and things, and more on the magic of moments and the essence of places. You stop chasing the light, and learn to enjoy the fine art of wandering. You visit the same place in different light and different weather, getting to know it, and hence seeing it with new eyes. You learn that if you hear more and touch more, you will photograph with more sensitivity. This week weaves together eye-opening outdoor experiences, technical lessons, daily critiques, and Eddie’s one-on-one meetings with each participant.
