Composition - View Point

Last of the composition rules I listed initially is View Point. If you want to make people stop and look at your photo try chaining the point of view. Take soccer for example, I take a ton of soccer pictures each year. Invariably someone, usually one of the other parents, will ask me why I kneel down or stand on my knees to shoot. My answer is simple. If I am on my knees shooting then I am closet to line of sight with the kids. Which means the images I make are not shot from a downward angle but instead are shot even with them.

I know it sounds simple but it works. change the point of view in an image and people will take note of it. Over the years working in technology I have seen lots of things on peoples desktops. One of the things that I see often is the windows desktop with the tulips. Take a close look at the image and you will see why it is so popular. Its from a different point of view. The photographer made the image from below the tulips with the light shining through.

Change up that point of view and you will get different results.
