Join photographer and author Bill Lea on a photographic tour of Cades Cove and the Great Smoky Mountains. Bill will present his popular program on light and will assist in applying those principles in the field as you personally discover the wide spectrum of photographic subjects present in Cades Cove. You will learn where and how Bill captured some of the fabulous images that appear in his Cades Cove â" Window to a Secret World book. At the same time, you will enjoy a glimpse into the fascinating history of one of the most beautiful and cherished photographic destinations in the country. Cades Cove and the surrounding Great Smoky Mountains offer an incredible list of photographic opportunities including grand landscapes, mountain streams, wildflowers, butterflies, waterfalls, whitetail deer, an occasional black bear and more. This workshop is available to photographers of any skill level who simply want to witness and photograph the beauty of Cades Cove and the Great Smoky Mountains. Experience the wonder of the Smokies in the field and classroom with this nationally recognized photographer and expert on Cades Cove.
Bill Lea may best be known for his artistic documentation of deer and bear behavior, the various moods of the Great Smoky Mountains, and southern ecosystems. He has been teaching photo workshops at Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont since 1992. More than 7,000 of Billâs photos have been presented in an array of books, calendars, magazines, advertisements and other publications. His work has appeared in Audubon calendars, BBC Wildlife, Defenders of Wildlife, Exploring the Smokies, National Geographic books, Nature Conservancy, National Wildlife, and many others. In 2005, Bill authored a coffee-table book titled Great Smoky Mountains Wildlife Portfolio and recently co-authored the Great Smoky Mountains Wonder and Light book. His newest book, Cades Cove â" Window to a Secret World, was released in September 2007 and is already in its second printing. When asked what he would like most to achieve through his photography, Bill replies, "I hope my images will promote a better understanding and appreciation for wildlife, the natural world, and most of all, our Creator."
