The other day I was looking around the web at photographers websites and a thought "What are the rules of composition?" One the surface it it's a simple thought but the answer is not so simple. The real root of this particular thought is "What make one image of the same subject more compiling than another?" Of course underneath all of that is a desire to make my image more compelling and interesting to my clients and the viewers of my websites.
The answer though, as I said, is not a simple thing. We have to remember that photography is art and as such is very subjective and as such you can't just say. Do A, B and C and you get a great image. However their are a number of little rules of thumb that have cropped up over the years. Over the next few days I will be posting on these and giving you some examples. At this point I intended to look at the following:
1 - The Rule of Thirds
2 - The Golden Spiral
3 - Disappearing Lines or Leading lines
4 - The 'S' Curve
5 - Balance
6 - Framing
7 - Avoiding mergers
8 - Simplicity
9 - View Point
This is by no means an exhaustive list so if you have other rules or guides jump in on the comments and let me know and I can add them as we go. Stay tuned for these posts in the coming days!(Click Here to Know More)
