Composition - The 'S' Curve

The 'S' Curve is realy just another type of leading line. You will often find the 'S' Curve used in landscapes. Do you see the 'S' in the image of the ocean above. The curves of the S help the eyes to move through the frame and convey a sense of motion to the water or the image. It's used a lot with roads and rivers too.

Another place you will find the 'S' Curve is in portraits. I'm just getting into portraits and do not have an abundance of images to show you as an example of its use there but now that I have mentioned it start looking for it. Think about how they posed the model in recent add you looked at. I wouldn't be surprised if you don't notice an 'S' Curve or some other leading line in the image.

'till next time keep the shutters click'n!
