West Virginia Day

Today is West Virginia Day. If you live in our state take a moment to reflect. A group of bloggers are participating in a challenge to blog about and make recommendations on how to effect things that needs to be changed in West Virginia. I was one of the bloggers invited to participate, however I have elected not to.

It's not that I don't see things that need changed or things that could be made better. It is quite the opposite. I work daily on improving the educational systems in the state and I had several good ideas to write about yet was not able to complete the task by the required deadline.

Instead I am simply going to remind you that today is the birthday of the Mountain State and bid you go outside and enjoy the beauty that is all around us. If their is something on your mind that needs changed in the state get up and do something about it. I once heard a quote on the sci-fi series Babylon 5 that is applicable to many things in my life and I believe it applies to effecting change.

The quote was between Ranger Marcus Cole and Commander Susan Ivanova. Marcus had ask the commander to do something and she had once again put him off. To which Marcus replied: "If not now, when?" Marcus' point was if you are going to put this off then when will you do it. I remembered that and when I go to procrastinate on a project or put something off I ask myself that questions. So my challenge to my fellow West Virginia's is simply this. If you see something that you feel needs to be changed then do something to create that change. One persons choice can and does make a difference in the world.

Identify the problem, come up with a solution and work toward that goal. For as Eudora Welty said "All serious daring starts from within."
