The Highland Scenic Highway in the remote and rugged mountains of Pocahontas County, West Virginia, is one of the premier locations for photographing the wonders of the Appalachian Mountains. This workshop takes a different spin by focusing on the nature of the Dog Days of August â€" We’ll explore the Highland Scenic Highway for summer wildflowers and a plethora of butterflies, including monarchs, tiger and zebra swallowtails, and red admirals. The highway is above the 4,000 foot elevation and we’ll also witness stunning sunrises and fog-shrouded valleys below us. We’ll also explore other locations near the mountain community of Marlinton, including the Locust Creek Covered Bridge, Falls of Hills Creek and the remarkable Cranberry Glades Botanical Area. This workshop will be a great opportunity to practice using your flash for photographing butterflies and other macro subjects.
